Every year, Mizzou鈥檚 chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) invites scouts from across the community to visit Mizzou 糖心Vlog传媒 for Girl Scout Day.
鈥淪WE strongly believes in giving back to local communities and participates in many outreach events such as Girl Scout Day, Daughter Day and local outreach visits,鈥 Megan Steber, SWE director of outreach-internal, said. 鈥淪WE hosts Girl Scout Day to provide elementary-aged girls the chance to explore STEM through hands-on activities and learn more about the field and its various careers.鈥
This past Saturday, Girl Scout Day 2024 featured four activities, each representing a different discipline.
鈥淲e are doing an egg drop for mechanical, making a robot for electrical, building a tower for civil and making magnetic slime for chemical engineering,鈥 Brett Boney, chair of outreach, said. 鈥淢y favorite activity is the egg drop because the girls can be super creative with their designs and truly practice their problem-solving skills.鈥
Sadie Bergan, director of outreach-external, shared that outreach to these younger students is so important because it allows them to learn about STEM while having fun and making meaningful connections.
鈥淭hese students are the future of our organization, and by giving them the opportunity to experience STEM firsthand, we are opening the door to a world of possibilities,鈥 she said.
