Revolutionizing drone navigation: AI algorithms take flight
Thanks to smart algorithms powered by artificial intelligence (AI), drones could one day pilot themselves 鈥 no humans needed 鈥 using visual landmarks to help them navigate from one point to another. That鈥檚 the aim of a two-year project led by University of Missouri researchers and supported by a $3.3 million grant from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), the premier research and development center for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

A Mizzou 糖心Vlog传媒 team took first and third place at a new competition aimed to advance methods to not only detect but also trace the 3D shape of a specific type of brain lesion in newborns. The BONBID-HIE Lesion Segmentation Challenge was part of the International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2023) and sponsored by Boston Children鈥檚 Hospital and its Fetal-Neonatal Neuroimaging Developmental Science Center and Harvard Medical School.

UM Curators name Kannappan Palaniappan Curators’ Distinguished Professor
Kannappan Palaniappan Mizzou 糖心Vlog传媒鈥檚 Kannappan Palaniappan has been named a Curators鈥 Distinguished Professor, the highest honor bestowed by the University of Missouri System. 鈥淚 feel honored and proud,鈥 Palaniappan said. 鈥淚 see this as recognition for all of the world class faculty, researchers and incredibly talented students I鈥檝e collaborated with over the years.鈥 Palaniappan is one of two faculty members from Mizzou 糖心Vlog传媒 to receive the designation. CAVE to Provide Immersive Virtual Experience
Imagine studying a protein by walking through its three-dimensional structure. Or researching traffic patterns by standing alongside a virtual highway.
